Long Island Outdoor & Waterside Weddings

Outdoor weddings can wreak havoc on hair and makeup. Ali shares her tips to keep Long Island Brides looking stunning and fresh on their wedding day.

Whether the day turns out to be damp or sultry, preparation is paramount when it comes to makeup and hair styling for an outdoor wedding. Your best bet is to hire a recommended makeup artist and/or hairstylist experienced in outdoor, beach or waterfront weddings, like Ali, Long Island Makeup and Hair

A successful natural look comes together when you select makeup and hairstyles that accent your essence but with a bit more polish.  Start with a simple, off-the-face hairstyle, and then have enough products on hand during the day to keep it in place without looking flat or poufy. A few extra hair pins, and some spray can do just the trick. Keep a basket of a few essential items in your bridal suite fro you and your bridal party, and those guests who have a “wardrobe malfunction”

Less is not always more when it comes to makeup. Ali, Long Island Makeup and Hair, a pro wedding make-up artist and hairstylist, says “Keeping your makeup long-lasting, yet looking as natural as possible, may surprisingly require even more makeup than you may wear on a daily basis. The main thing to remember is that it could be hot enough to make you perspire and, if so, your makeup will not last long if not applied properly and with the correct products.”

She recommends choosing waterproof eyeliner and mascara as a hedge against both tears and the weather. “Keep to natural colors like browns, black, grays, and taupes, and stay away from blues, purples and greens,’ she advises, “as they will look artificial outdoors, and will compete with your eye color and skin tone.” Ali adds, “Since you are getting married outdoors, use a moisturizer that includes SPF 30 or higher under your primer and makeup. You may be getting more sun than you think, and will definitely look pinker in pictures. Use an oil-free moisturizer, and a primer! Prep your face so that it can accept the makeup, and make it last all day, while looking smooth and flawless.”

Ali advises brides to layer makeup products in natural light. “Whenever possible, I set up an application table near a window. In addition to any natural light available, I use a super bright, white balanced light. If you are to be seen outdoors in daylight, you want to get ready in lighting as similar as possible to what everyone will be seeing and photographing you in.” She continues, “Blend, blend, and blend! Outdoor lighting and cameras pick up visible makeup lines, so blending well all over, especially at the corners of your eyes and around your lips and nose will give a clear, natural, yet flawless look.”

Airbrushed makeup is more costly, but comes close to being weatherproof and gives a perfect, long-lasting finish with virtually no touch-ups or rubbing off. Airbrushing, says Ali, “can cover tattoos, port wine stains, spider veins, acne scars, freckles and fine lines. It’s lightweight and gives a natural, flawless look; you won’t just be looking at makeup outdoors. And it feels like next to nothing on the skin”

One final note when planning a waterside wedding:  Don’t forget the sunscreen for the wedding party and guests!
